We provide a safe space and a hot meal for men who due to their immigration status cannot access benefits or homeless services, mainly refused asylum seekers who cannot work or get public funds.

They’re completely destitute, without our help they’d have to sleep rough, vulnerable to exploitation and violence.

Unable to get benefits, many at the night shelter are without any financial support. This means they can’t use public transport, get a haircut, buy clothes or a cup of coffee or anything that needs cash.

They have to ask friends or charities for top up for their phones,a vital life-line keeping them in touch with family back home.

It’s difficult to imagine what it’s like to live without any money at all, unable to buy even basic things such as soap or razors. It’s difficult to imagine that some men have lived in this way for over a year.

It’s not difficult, however, to understand the destructive effect this situation has on the self-esteem and mental health of the men.

We want to raise enough money to give 15 men staying at the night shelter £15 a week. It’s not a huge sum of money – only £2 a day – but it’d make all the difference for men who have absolutely nothing and are completely dependent on charity for everything.

It works out as about £900 a month or about £10,800 a year. We think this is totally ‘do-able’ and we’re asking YOU to help us. Please make a donation big or small to the night shelter’s hardship fund for destitute asylum seekers.

Alternatively donations can be made by transfering money to the Glasgow Night Shelter for Destitute Asylum Seekers account at any Lloyds TSB branch, account number: 75281960 and sort code: 87-37-17 putting “Hardship Fund” as the reference.
